For many children in this community, organized sports can be a financial burden to their family. The costs of equipment mean that many a child will not have the opportunity to participate in an organized league and learn the valuable life lessons of teamwork, camaraderie and selflessness that youth sports teach. The Cleat Exchange, a program that takes donations of used shoes to be dispersed to any in need, aims to make sure that every kid has the opportunity to play.
There are two phases of the program.
Pay It Forward Phase
We will be asking people to donate used cleats to those who need them. By doing so, they get something back themselves by saving $5 off a new pair of cleats at the Oneonta Dick’s Sporting Goods (DSG). The program runs Friday, August 8th through Monday, September 1st. Used cleats are taken to the Oneonta DSG store where they will be presented with a voucher good for $5 off a new pair of cleats.
The actual exchange of cleats will happen at the Wright National Soccer Campus on Thursday, August 28th and Tuesday, September 2nd – from 5pm to 7pm each day. The cleats collected during the Pay It Forward Phase will be used as an inventory starting point, plus will provide extras for those who do not have a pair to exchange. All excess inventory will be stored for next year.
